Loews Boston Hotel - Boston, MA
After a rigorous public bidding process, the City of Boston designated Saunders Hotel Group as the developer to convert the historic Boston Police Headquarters into a 4-star hotel. The City awarded the renovation, restoration and reuse project to Saunders despite SHG not submitting the highest bid. The certainty of knowing Saunders would close on the deal and complete the complex redevelopment was pivotal in the City’s decision.
Saunders took the project through the entitlement and architectural and design processes, and in 2001 entered into a long-term ground lease with Jurys’ Doyle Hotel Group of Dublin, Ireland. The hotel opened in 2004 as Jury’s Boston the first new hotel to open in Boston post-9/11.
Subsequently, the ground lease for this hotel was taken over by Loews and continues to operate under that name.
